17th BRISTOL ENCOUNTERS INTERNAITONAL FILM FESTIVAL
16 – 20 NOVEMBER 2011 INDUSTRY HIGHLIGHTS
The Bristol Encounters International Film Festival returns this November to showcase the best short film and animation talent around. The festival will showcase 180 new films from emerging and established talent from 31 countries in competition across strands Animated and Brief Encounters. The festival will feature special guests including artist and director Sam Taylor-Wood (Nowhere Boy), Director Bruce Robinson (Withnail & I, The Rum Diary) and animator John K (The Ren & Stimpy Show) plus more. With over 600 delegates attending from all over the world, the festival hosts a series of industry focused activities throughout the week, from panels to masterclasses, workshops and networking opportunities.

New to 2011, Encounters introduces Brief Exchange (Wed 16 – Fri 18 Nov), an opportunity for industry delegates to discuss the latest debates and future trends across subjects ranging from Future of Short Film (Wed 16 Nov), Future of Cinema (Thu 17 Nov) and Future Encounters (Fri 18 Nov). Each event will start with a networking breakfast, followed by a key note speech led by the chair of the day including Briony Hanson (British Council Film department), Paul Appleby (Director of VID) and Peter Carlton (Warp Films). (Free for delegates on a first come first served basis.) Workshops in cinematography this year include; Red Cam Workshop (£40, Wed 16 Nov & Thus 17 Nov) with esteemed Director of Photography Terry Flaxton who will give an insight into digital cinematography through the red one camera; 3D Introductory Workshop, an introduction to stereo vision and 3D filmmaking (£40, Sat 19 Nov); NFTS Presents: A Cinematography Masterclass with Brian Tufano (Trainspotting) and Stuart Harris (Wetherby) (included in Delegate Pass or £6 full / £5 conc, Wed 16 Nov).
London Film Academy presents: Acting for Directors Workshops, two practical introductory workshops in acting for directors and directors in training (included in Delegate Pass or £10, Fri 18 Nov).
Animation workshops include; Aardman, Model-Making and Rapid-Prototyping (Included in Delegate Pass or £10, Thu 17 Nov) which will focus on model production techniques including the use of the latest modelling technology Rapid Prototyping (RP).
Animation case study studio profiles include; Cartoon Saloon (included in Delegate Pass or £6 full / £5 conc, Fri 18 Nov) where Tomm Moore, Creative Director will presents an insight into one of Ireland’s leading animation companies; Creative Director Philip Hunt presents an insight into the prestigious work from Studio AKA famous for advertising campaigns such as the popular Lloyds TSB commercials to Orange and BMW plus a number of BAFTA award winning short films (included in Delegate Pass or £6 full / £5 conc, Thu 17 Nov).
